Overview

The Spotted Dwarf Hypostomus Pleco Hypostomus macushi is a new species that is also known as the Red Pepper Pleco. A sucker mouth bottom dweller, it is also capable of breathing air. Body coloring is a pale gray color, and it is covered throughout in randomly spaced black spots. It is best kept alone or part of a small group.

A freshwater aquarium for the Spotted Dwarf Hypostomus Pleco should have a soft substrate that sand or fine gravel to keep this freshwater fish from harming itself. Driftwood, smooth rocks, caves and tunnels that provide plenty of hiding areas will help this Pleco feel safe and reduce its stress. Freshwater plants will be nibbled upon, so are not necessary for this Pleco’s environment.

An omnivore, this member of the Loricariidae family has the ability to digest driftwood. It should be fed food in flake, frozen or sinking pellet form that satisfies both its meat and plant-based requirements.
