Overview

Formerly known as “Acans” or Acanthestrea and now remamed to Homophyllia bowerbanki, “Bankies” can have similar color patterns to that of other corals such as Warpaint and UFO along with many other color combinations. This variety of LPS coral will not disappoint in color and shape.

Homophyllia bowerbanki is an encrusting coral found from Australia to Japan in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It is a relatively common coral that can fall prey to the destructive Crown of Thorns Starfish on the reef. This coral can also be found in the trade as more hobbyists are having success with aquaculture and propagation of this species. Care is relatively straight forward for Bankies. Place in the middle of the aquarium with moderate to strong water flow. These corals will appreciate larger foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp.
