Overview

The Monkey Plant, also known as the Lavender Monkey Plant or Allegheny Monkey Flower, is an attractive plant perfect for naturalizing the edges of ponds and water gardens. This hardy ornamental plant adds fantastic visual interest with foliage and flower. Its distinct upright growing habit offers an architectural foundation that beautifully showcases it toothy lance-shaped leaves. The Monkey Plant produces charming lavender flowers that soften its overall appearance with delicate color and whimsy.

The Monkey Plant is a hardy, easy-to-care-for perennial that produces tubular flowers said to resemble a monkey's face. While it might be difficult for some to see the resemblance fortunately the Monkey Plant is a steady bloomer that offers water gardeners plenty of opportunity to look for that perfect monkey face! Flowers typically bloom throughout the summer growing season. The Monkey Plant is a great ornamental plant for pond margins, landscaping, or for rain gardens. The Monkey Plant self-propagates through seeds and creeping rhizomes. Established plants can also be divided to ensure an ample supply of plants to transplant in different areas of your pond or to share with fellow water gardeners. The Monkey Plant can grow up to a height of 36".

The Monkey Plant is relatively easy to keep in moist conditions or immersed at the pond's edge under partial shade or in full sun conditions. Pot the Monkey Plant in a 1-2 gallon or large planting container and set the planter in your pond so it is covered by one inch of water. Zones 3-8.
