Overview
The Strawberries and Cream Ribbon Grass is a hardy perennial grass ideally suited for the novice water gardener. This undemanding ornamental grass is a cultivated variety of Ribbon Grass that can be grown successfully under a wide variety of planting and lighting conditions. The Strawberries and Cream Ribbon Grass demonstrates beautiful variegation with cream and green stripes that accentuate its long, sword-like foliage. A blush of lovely pink coloration gives the Strawberries and Cream Ribbon Grass a tropical touch. The Strawberries and Cream Ribbon Grass has a compact habit, growing to about 1 foot tall developing thin, silvery plumes in late summer that may reach up to 4 feet tall. For this reason, the Strawberries and Cream Ribbon Grass makes an excellent plant for use along the edges of your pond or even as a background plant.
The Strawberries and Cream Ribbon Grass can be planted at the water's edge or immersed in water under partial shade or in full sun conditions. To maintain a neat appearance or to contain excess growth, pot the Strawberries and Cream Ribbon Grass in a wide-mouthed 5-gallon planting container and set the planter in your pond so it is covered by up to 2 inches of water. The Strawberries and Cream Ribbon Grass goes fully dormant during winter. Zones 4-11.
