Overview

The Yellow Prawn Goby is also known as the Yellow Watchman Prawn, or Yellow Shrimp Goby, was first discovered in 1936 by Herre. The head and body are yellow-orange with bright blue spots on the head and fins. The Yellow Prawn Goby wears an amusing perpetual frown, and likes to peek out from behind rocks. They have been known to form symbiotic relationships with pistol shrimp.

It requires a 30 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of loose coral rubble, ample swimming room, and a sand bottom for burrowing. It rarely becomes aggressive towards other fish, but it is territorial, and will fight with its own kind unless they are a mated pair. It may try to jump out of the aquarium or other small openings, therefore, a tight-fitting lid is required to prevent escape.

The Yellow Prawn Goby diet should include a variety of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, table shrimp, and frozen preparations for carnivores. It should be fed at least twice per day.

Customer Testimonials

This is the nicest goby I have kept in my tank. It would hide in the rock, hovering a few inches over the hole it chose as its "home." I thought these were burrowers, but mine liked the rock best. He could reverse backwards into his hole as fast as he could swim forward.

This is a very nice fish. He is thriving in my tank and he is larger than I expected!

This is a very good goby and when I first got mine, it was bright yellow and within three months it turned to a dull tan with blue on its lower fins. It eats pretty much everything I feed to it as long as other more active fish in the tank don't out-compete it for food. It lives at the bottom of my tank underneath a large rock. It often swims around and moves some of the gravel around most parts of the tank.

One of the neatest fish I have. Excellent coloring and a great personality. Mine has made a burrow under the live rock and stays near the entrance to his cave to watch everyone else in the tank. I think this is one of the most beautiful fish.

I have a mated pair and they are just awesome. They would follow each other around and sleep together... pretty much everything together.

Definitely my favorite fish! He's very entertaining, and he's got a very big personality (he's kind of mischievous -- several times he has found his way into the overflow or down into the sump!) He gets along with his tankmates, and he's very hardy. We got him when we first started our aquarium, and he survived lots of newbie mistakes (high salinity/ nitrates/temperature, etc). Very colorful fish that adds a lot of fun to the tank!

These gobies are virtually bullet proof. I had a pair survive a marine velvet outbreak, held their own with all tank mates and ate virtually anything including bubble algae that was knocked free during tank cleanings. As a bonus they spawned almost monthly laying a clutch of eggs in their cave.

I have my Yellow Watchman paired with a Tiger Pistol and they are constantly digging in my 29 Biocube... He is really awesome to watch, but he has an attitude when my clowns or pygmy angel come close to the tunnels. I do really enjoy him in the tank however!
