Overview

Snail, Black Foot Trochus, Trochus Snail and Banded Trochus Snail. It can be an effective addition to your reef aquarium not only for its algae eating behavior, but the striking look it displays. With a flat base, it has a thick and solid conical shell with whorls. This species come in a variety of colors including brown, green, purple, red, or white. Adult specimen can be covered in algae which masks their true colors. Containing a sculptural shell, it is quite ornamental and popular.

House this member of your cleanup crew in aquariums with live rock and caves or décor in which it can hide. If it gets turned, it is able to right itself.

It consumes several types of algae including green algae, brown algae, red algae, and diatoms with the use of an effective radula that it uses to scrape algae from the surface to which it is adhered. It will benefit from supplemental feedings of an herbivorous nature.

This member of the Trochidae family reproduces by broadcast spawning and fertilization.
