The Cabomba Plant, also known as the Carolina Fanwort, is an attractive aquatic plant popular among freshwater aquarium hobbyists as well as pond keepers and water gardeners thanks to its relative ease of care and vigorous growth once established. The Cabomba Plant boasts vibrant green coloration with beautiful purple accents and features decorative lacy foliage that is divided into feathery fan-like segments. During summer, the Cabomba Plant is often decorated with lovely emergent white flowers that breach the water surface.

The Cabomba Plant is commercially available in a variety of forms and provides a wide variety of benefits to the aquatic environment. For example, the Cabomba Plant can help improve pond water quality by processing dissolved carbon dioxide and converting it into oxygen vital to goldfish, koi, and other pond fish. In addition to playing an important role in oxygenating pondwater, the Cabomba Plant also consumes nitrogenous waste materials that is not only toxic to pond fish but can also fuel aggressive nuisance algae growth. Zones 5-11

The Cabomba Plant should be handled with care when planting as the delicate foliage and stems are susceptible to breakage. The Cabomba Plant can be potted in small aquatic planters or planted directly in gravel on the pond bottom. Once established, the Cabomba Plant grows quickly to provide much needed shade and protection for your pond fish, as well as a potential spawning site for fish. Under ideal conditions, the Cabomba Plant can spread 12-24". Cuttings removed from mature healthy plants can be replanted to help manage growth and to propagate new plants.

Customer Testimonials

Cabomb Caroliniana is a fast growing, but sometimes frustrating plant, if you have fish that might uproot it. After only a few weeks I had to trim mine as it had reached the surface of my 24" show tank. It tends to do better with brighter lights.
Ross J Houston , TX
The Cambomba is beautiful and perfect for a heavily planted aquarium; however, it is a frustrating plant and requires some extra time. The plant loves to "shed" the little "needles" and sometimes an entire small branch, all either clogging the filter intake or the filter. So, you must take extra time to be careful when vacuuming substrate, moving items in your aquarium or other maintenance. Also keep an extra eye on the filter intake for clogs. Is it worth the mess? Yes...compared to an artificial plant you can't top the look and atmosphere it creates for your fish and viewers alike.
Chris L Versailles , KY
A beautiful plant with a soft and feathery texture. If handled with care it won't fall apart on you! I recommend lighting specifically for plants, such as Coralife's Nutri Grow bulb. For OUSTANDING growth and color, implement CO2 in your tank during the daylight hours. (Even a DIY CO2 setup will do wonders!)
Kristi Dodson Caldwell , TX
The plants I received are healthy and thriving. They also came with bladder snails.
Tucker Woolsey Willard , MO
This is a really great plant and looks nice. The only issue is they are a bit difficult to plant especially in gravel.
