The Deepwater Candy Basslet, is an eye-catching addition to the home saltwater aquarium. Displaying an elongated body of orange and lavender horizontal stripes accented with red lines. Similar to its closest relative the Caribbean Swissguard Basslet and the Western Pacific Swales Basslet, Candy Basslet are can easily be identified by their intense coloration and lack of black spot on their anal fin.

Candy Basslet are found in the eastern Caribbean from the Bahamas, Florida Keys and some of the smaller Islands off the northern coast of South America such as Curacao, Bonaire and the Ascension Islands. They tend to inhabit caves and rocky recesses between 50 and 250 feet.

An excellent and peaceful reef-dwelling fish, the Deepwater Candy Basslet may pose a threat to tiny ornamental crustaceans that can fit into their mouth. Provide at least a 10-gallon aquarium for a single individual with plenty of caves and crevices for hiding as the Candy Basslet is somewhat cryptic.

As a carnivore, the Deepwater Candy Basslet will thrive on a diet of meaty foods including enriched frozen mysis shrimp, enriched frozen brine shrimp, and frozen blended mix marine preparations.
