Overview

Own a piece of coral history with your very own ORA® Aquacultured Grube's Gorgonian! This highly-sought-after soft coral has a rich transcontinental history involving the esteemed Julian Sprung. Originally collected in the Philippines around 1990 by Klaus and Rosalia Grube, this graceful, thin-branched octocoral gained popularity throughout Europe and recently introduced to the US market thanks to a colony obtained by Julian Sprung.

The ORA Aquacultured Grube's Gorgonian is pinkish tan in coloration with small, similar-colored polyps. Though gracile in appearance, it demonstrates exceptional hardiness and rapid growth in the established reef aquarium. Though peaceful, be sure to provide the ORA Aquacultured Grube's Gorgonian adequate space away from neighboring corals or anemones. This gorgonian requires a moderate amount of light, but should be offered zooplankton and other foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates. It also requires a stronger water flow and the addition of iodine, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.

In order to inhibit nuisance algae and cyanobacteria growth, it is important to provide this gorgonian with strong, constant or intermittent water flow. If unwanted algae and cyanobacteria should cover your coral, immediately remove it from the coral to prevent rapid tissue deterioration. Nuisance algae can be removed gently with a soft brush. Combat cyanobacteria by soaking the coral in freshwater of the same temperature and pH for approximately 1 minute.

The ORA Aquacultured Grube's Gorgonian should be fed a few times a week with a food designed for filter feeding coral and invertebrates. Provide a varied diet of live or frozen baby brine shrimp, MarineSnow, >PhytoPlan and other suitable micro foods.

The ORA Aquacultured Grube's Gorgonian is attached to a black plastic plug and can be easily placed in holes or between the rockwork of the reef aquarium.
