New to the hobby? Blue Tangs are best cared for in aquariums at least 6' in length by experienced marine (saltwater) aquarists. If you're a beginner, we recommend a similar-looking fish such as the Marine (Saltwater) Yellowtail Damselfish or Freshwater Boesemani Rainbow.

The Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang is a gorgeous color variety of the popular Blue Tang. Though it shares the attractive coloration of the Blue Tang, the Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang boasts a richer, deep-blue coloration and a brilliant yellow coloration that covers a greater portion of the body. The yellow coloration, most prominent on the caudal fin (tail), continues across the belly region, giving the Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang an exciting boost in color. Small Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tangs will not exhibit the yellow belly coloration until they mature. Combined with the signature bold black markings resembling a painter's palette, the Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang is sure to be an impressive addition to reef or fish-only aquariums.

Native to reefs in the Indian Ocean, the Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang appreciates good hiding locations amongst live rock. However, this active fish also loves to swim. Therefore, ample room to roam around your aquarium is essential for optimum health. Though peaceful towards most tankmates, the Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang will demonstrate aggressive behavior towards other fish of its own species. To keep multiple specimens, introduce the entire lot at once into a larger marine system.

Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine-based algae or seaweed. This diet will help strengthen the Blue and Yellow Hippo Tang's immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health. Offer dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip and feed at least three times per week. Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad and Ocean Nutrition are all ideal products and are very easy to use.

Careful observance of the Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang is essential as it is more susceptible to lateral line disease, fin erosion, ich and other skin parasites than many other fish.

We purchased this fish as a 1 to 1 1/2" size specimen, along with a Maldives Lyretail Anthias and a Scopas Tang. The Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang arrived, as the other fish as well, in very good shape and acclimated extremely well using the instructions provided in the shipping container. even in the bag right out of the shipping container, the fish were all doing very well and looked great. There were what appeared to be a few lumps in the Regal Blue's belly, but no symptoms in behavior or diet have shown, and it is not as noticable now. He'll eat anything from brine to mysis to bloodworms and an ocean nutrition flake food we bought. The regal blue doesn't seem to be entirely too picky about it's food. We've had the new additions to the tank for about 3 weeks now, and everyone is getting along GREAT! and even going to the cleaner shrimp to get cleaned. One thing I didn't notice in the description is that the regal blue doesn't have the pretty yellow accents on the belly as a small specimen and only gets them later as it grows. I was excited about having a fish with that coloration, and now it seems I'll have to wait to see that. But no biggie, he's a great fishmate for the other fishes. Great job Foster and Smith! You've got a customer for life.

Do not be mistaken - they grow & grow fast!! They are absolutely fantastic & gorgeous, much better looking than the regular hippos IMO.

I purchased one of these about three months ago it is still alive and doing well. I didn't really have any issues with the fish which I was surprised and happy about, blue tangs can be tough to keep disease free. Liveaqiaria did a good job with this one. The color doesn't really develop until they are a little bigger, mines just starting to show now as he grows. Awesome fish probably my favorite one.
