The Black Gamecock is a color variety of the Louisiana Iris and is a tropical Bog Plant. The large, dramatic black to purple flowers of this plant grows up to 6 inches across. The Black Gamecock can get as tall as 3' and may have a spread of 24-36".
Louisiana Irises are best grown in full sun and in slightly acidic soil. Pot in 5-gallon containers and set in water up to 3 inches over crowns in full sun to part shade. They should not be left outside in the winter in areas of hard freeze, but can be left in place in non-freezing ponds. Louisiana Irises need to be repotted annually. Zones 5-11.
