Overview
True to its name, the Half Black Guppy is exactly that - half black. With a quirky mix of black and dark blue in one half of its body and a metallic gray in the other, these specimens are a favorite among aquarium enthusiasts who prize Fancy Guppies, or as they are also called, “Million Fish”. The male guppies are smaller than the females, and they boast a brighter and more vibrant coloration than their female counterparts, making them highly sought after.
A smaller fish (1 ¾” at maturity), they are at home in tank sizes of 10 or more gallons and should be in a guppies-only tank to protect their long fins and tails from other fish. The Half Black Guppy are peaceful, hardy and highly energetic fish, making them an easy specimen for even beginner aquarium enthusiasts.
Half Black Guppies are live bearing fish and are fairly easy to breed when provided with a covering of floating plants and a breeding box to protect the fry from adults. The fry should be fed brine shrimp, micro food, and pulverized flakes. For adults, algae-based flake food, along with brine shrimp and freeze-dried bloodworms, will provide them the necessary nutrition they need.
