Overview

The Golden Dwarf Agassizii Cichlid is a marvelous color variant of the Apistogramma cichlid. It is a smaller dwarf cichlid with a golden body exhibiting a dark purple color topside along the base of the dorsal fin. As the Golden Dwarf Agassizii Cichlid matures, it further develops its rich golden coloration to fullfil it’s moniker, while its fins become fiery red.

The Golden Dwarf Agassizii Cichlid should be kept in an aquarium that is at least 30 gallons in size, with densely planted groupings. An established system with stable, high water quality is fundamental to longer term care. The Golden Dwarf Agassizii Cichlid requires plenty of open swimming areas but also need hiding places. A fine gravel to sand substrate is recommended. Although a peaceful to semi-aggressive fish, the Golden Dwarf Agassizii Cichlid is also timid and should not be housed with large, aggressive fish.

The Golden Dwarf Agassizii Cichlid is an egg layer that prefers to spawn in caves. If the female is not ready to breed when the male is, he will harass her until she is. The female will reciprocate the male's behavior once the eggs are laid if she feels that the cave is too cramped.

The Golden Dwarf Agassizii Cichlid is a carnivore and will consume a wide variety of foods. Frozen/thawed bloodworms, mysis shrimp, quality flake food and micro pellets make excellent food for these fish.
