Overview

Did you know that this specimen ships from our LiveAquaria® Wisconsin Facility, home of our popular Diver's Den® WYSIWYG Store and our LiveAquaria® Certified Captive Grown Corals (CCGC)? What that means is that you can rest assured knowing this specimen received the highest level of care from our experienced and professional LiveAquaria® staff!

PLUS, hobbyists that use our LiveAquaria® Professional Reef Salt have the added benefit knowing marine species shipped from our LiveAquaria® Wisconsin Facility share the same water parameters. In other words, if you use our Professional Reef Salt, marine species shipped from our Wisconsin Facility will acclimate and transition to your home aquarium with less stress to set the foundation for longer term success.

The Chalice Coral offers a sensibly-priced way to maximize the many benefits of this popular coral. Most notable is the pleasing kaleidoscope of dusky colors it introduces into your reef aquarium. The highly-textured body of the Chalice Coral increases visual interest while the unique architectural growth habit fills both horizonal and vertical empty spaces to give you more “bang” for your reef landscaping buck!

Care of the Chalice Coral is fairly straightforward as long as you maintain pristine water conditions. The Chalice Coral prefers horizontal placement in areas of low to moderate light and water movement. Keep in mind that the Chalice Coral can readily adapt to different amounts of lighting achieved by T-5s, powerful LEDs or the more intense metal halides. Typically, this slow-growing coral species is known to exhibit both an encrusting habit when placed near aquarium glass, as well as a plating habit when housed in open areas.

The Chalice Coral can produce sweeper tentacles that can harm more docile corals and invertebrates. Be sure to provide sufficient space between the Colored Chalice Coral and other corals because of its semi-aggressive temperament.

The Chalice Coral feeds mostly at night. Though feeding is not necessary, it benefits from small pieces of meaty marine food, such as baby brine shrimp, CYCLOP-EEZE®, or foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates. For continued good health, the Chalice Coral benefits from the addition of calcium, strontium, iodine, magnesium and trace elements to the water column.
