Overview
The Assorted Male Guppy can be any variety of Poecilia reticulata depending on availability and supplier. Regardless of variety, male guppies are known for their vibrant coloration which makes them admired and sought after by any guppy enthusiast or freshwater aquarium hobbyist interested in colorful live-bearing fish.
The Assorted Male Guppy does best in an established aquarium of at least 10 gallons. Though tolerant of small changes, care should be taken to maintain stable water parameters. Hardy plant varieties such as Java Fern and Java Moss are excellent choices for creating a lush, planted aquarium housing the Assorted Male Guppy. Though best displayed in a biotope or colony aquarium, the Assorted Male Guppy is a very peaceful fish that does well in freshwater community aquariums housing tankmates of similar temperament.
The Assorted Male Guppy is an omnivore and requires both algae-based foods as well as meaty foods. An algae-based flake food, along with freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp will provide guppies with the proper nutrition.
Guppies are relatively easy to breed even for the beginning aquarists. If you are interested in breeding guppies, the ideal aquarium should have a covering of floating plants and a breeding box to protect the fry. Adults may eat the fry if left to fend for themselves without the breeding box. The fry should be fed brine shrimp, micro food and pulverized flakes.
