Overview
The Red Tail Triggerfish, also known as the Sargassum Triggerfish, comes from the Caribbean Ocean and is mostly purple in color. The sides are marked with evenly spaced spots that are darker than the rest of the body. The fish is also outlined in darker lines that progress into the tail and change from their dark color into a red coloration.
A 125-gallon or larger aquarium with rocks and caves provides a good habitat. It will rearrange the landscaping and rocks as it wanders in and out of the caves. It vocalizes using a "grunting" sound. The Red Tail Triggerfish are very friendly and make a great pet as well as a great conversation piece.
The Red Tail Triggerfish needs a well-balanced diet of vitamin-enriched herbivore preparations, marine algae, and meaty foods such as small invertebrates, shrimp, squid, clams.

Ordered my Red Tail Trigger on Sunday night and he arrived at 10 AM Tuesday. He hid for the first day and has been out and swimming around since. Very nice specimen. Can't tell if he's eating much yet but it's only been three days. He's still a bit shy of movement outside the aquarium but he's getting along with all of the other fish. No skirmishes. Very nice fish.
This is the second fish I've gotten Dr F & S. I would definitely order again.

Just awesome. got this lil' guy all nice and healthy. He got acclimated really quickly and is already the biggest eater in the tank. Not a problem with any of my invertebrates or smaller clown fish a model citizen! do not be afraid that this fish will disturb the peace in the tank it WILL NOT. This is the thing- he will not actively chase anything, but will size up with other large fish to show he is not afraid. my rabbit fish sized up with him and the trigger held his own, and pushed him with his snout. they are now on good terms and have not bothered each other since. Overall, he will establish himself, but will not be a nuisance like most other triggers out there!
of course, 100% satisfaction with Liveaquaria! Keep it up!

I received my sargassum trigger about 6 months ago. Made it through quarantine no problem. Added him to my reef tank, was the last fish added. Purple tang tried to intimidate him, but after a week or so they seemed to have sorted things out. He does not bother any fish, or invertebrates. Constantly swimming and begging for food. Was taking nori out of my hand within 2 weeks. Great fish!
