Overview

The Blue & Green and Yellow Colony Polyp Corals are stunning color varieties of the Zoanthus Colony Polyp Coral, also commonly known as Sea Mats or Button Polyps. These soft corals are prized for their bright, eye-catching hues and are available in a wide array of color morphs that add vibrant visual interest to reef aquariums. Each colony is composed of multiple individual polyps growing together on a piece of live rock, creating a carpet-like effect that enhances reefscapes with dynamic texture and movement.

The Blue &; Green coloration offers a cool-toned, soothing contrast to reef lighting, while the Yellow variety adds bold, sunny pops of color that stand out against live rock and other coral. Together, these varieties create a visually stimulating and rhythmic display ideal for reef keepers looking to enrich their aquarium with color diversity.

Like other Zoanthus corals, both the Blue &; Green and Yellow Colony Polyp Corals are relatively easy to care for, making them great choices for beginner and seasoned aquarists alike. They thrive in low to moderate water flow and under moderate lighting provided by T-5s, powerful LEDs, or metal halides. Regular supplementation of iodine and trace elements will help maintain polyp health and coloration.

These corals multiply easily in established reef systems through budding, expanding their colony coverage over time. The symbiotic zooxanthellae algae they host fulfill most of their nutritional needs through photosynthesis. However, under suboptimal lighting, they may benefit from supplemental feeding with micro-plankton, baby brine shrimp, or other filter-feeder foods.

Note that Zoanthus corals can exhibit semi-aggressive behavior by extending short sweeper tentacles, so provide ample space between colonies and neighboring corals to reduce crowding or stinging.

It's common to receive frags or rocks not fully covered in polyps, but under stable conditions, these corals will quickly spread, eventually covering both the base rock and surrounding surfaces with a colorful, living mat.
