Overview

The Brilliant Rummy-Nose Tetra gets its name from the red blushing across its nose and face. But its beautiful coloration does not end there. Hemigrammus bleheri has a mirror-like silver body and a jet-black tail striped with white. This color pattern adds a simple, yet striking beauty to any freshwater aquarium. The Brilliant Rummy-Nose Tetra is a peaceful omnivore that makes an excellent addition to community aquariums with non-aggressive tankmates.

Also known as the Rummy-Nose Tetra, this fish native to South America thrives in well-planted systems. In addition to plants, decorate the aquarium with scattered rocks and driftwood to simulate its natural habitat. As with other shoaling fish, a school of six or more Brilliant Rummynose Tetras creates an impressive aquarium display. For best care, offer a variety of foods, including brine shrimp or daphnia, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, micro pellet food, and high quality flake diets.

The Brilliant Rummy-Nose Tetra will breed occasionally in the home aquarium and a hospital or "breeding tank" will be necessary to rear the fry. Slightly acidic water is best for optimal breeding conditions. After the eggs begin to hatch, removing the parents will be necessary to reduce the number of lost fry.

Approximate Purchase Size: 1/4" to 1"

Customer Testimonials

Barbara G Moses Lake , WA
I have a 55-gallon tank with four True Rummynose Tetras. They are a joy to watch and interact well with the rest of the community!
S. Anderson Tampa , FL
Incredibly enjoyable and as pretty as their picture. I have 12 in a 30-gallon and no fighting yet amongst them (about six months old). Seem very hardy (have a tetra tank with wet/dry and UV; pH 6.0 and hardness less than 10).
Tyler M Southington , CT
I have a 20 gallon tank with 3 rummy noses and their colors are magnificent. They are also a joy to watch.
Jeff Z Winchester , MA
I have six in a 55g planted tank and they school very closely, which is fascinating. I will get 10 or 12 more so the school is larger. VERY attractive.
Anonymous Madison Heights , VA
I have 21 Rummy Nose Tetras in a 55 gallon tank with Black Neons. They are fantastic schoolers and great eaters. They scavange, too, and clean the bottom thoroughly.
L Wagner Schaumburg , IL
Very nice schooling fish, best to have them in a group of 5 and up. They stick together and are very active and friendly.
