Drs. Foster & Smith's Nano Live Rock is a mixture of live rock originating from the South Pacific and Indonesia, which have been chosen specifically for their interesting shapes and small sizes that are ideal for a Nano Reef Aquarium. Not only will the smaller rocks of different shapes afford you to aquascape your nano reef with ease, it is also more bio-diverse incorporating live rock from different parts of the ocean. After several months in your aquarium, under proper lighting and adequate water conditions, the diversity of life and incredible colors and shapes of coralline algae will amaze you.
This box of Nano Live Rock was developed especially for the Nano Cube, but will also accommodate other small aquariums from 8 to 16 gallons in size. The quantity and diversity of rock included will allow you to create a beautiful aquascape, with many open holes and crevices, for marine life to hide.
This rock is "pre-cured" and is maintained fully submerged in filtered holding systems, and is shipped moist to reduce any die-off. This will greatly reduce curing time and will provide a stable environment for fish, invertebrates and corals in a matter of weeks. Because the rock originates from different parts of Indo and the South Pacific Ocean, more biodiversity will be found within this collection of rock. A diversity of life forms such as plants, worms, sponges, starfish, crustaceans, mollusks, and occasionally even hard or soft corals are often present with these types of rock.
Live Rock is easy to maintain in the aquarium, and makes an excellent candidate for the beginner or the expert aquarist. This type of rock requires moderate lighting, and moderate water movement, along with the addition of calcium, strontium, iodine, and trace elements.
It is imperative to cure the rock again upon receipt, before it is placed in the display aquarium that contains fish, coral, or inverts.
The Rock is amazing! Great color! I put it in the tank today. Packaging was out of this world. From California to NY in less then 24 hours! I'm impressed! Thank you Drs. Foster and Smith!!
My rock had tons of coralline algae on it. The shapes of the rock were amazing too; it even had three fancy branch rocks. It would have been two branch rocks but one of the pieces broke during shipping. Overall, the product is great and I would recommend it to any hobbiest.
Wow what a package! Got mine overnight and very impressed. Tons of life on these. The shapes are amazing. Filled my 12 gallon JBJ nanocube DX perfectly. If you have a nano, this is the perfect package for live rock.
Very nice selection of rocks. I had to do a weekly scrub of the rocks for a while, but 12 weeks later, this stuff is awesome. I have feather dusters, and some coral polyp colonies developing. After the addition of a Clean-Up-Crew, things look great. No mantis shrimps, only a few harmless bristles. Maiden hair is doing great.
Awesome rock for your nano tank. Tons of great pieces and great colors. Shipping was awesome, came right on time. Couldn't be more pleased. Definitely recommend this to all and saves you a good deal of money. Thanks for your great service.
The amazing quantity and quality of life on this rock is a testimony to the professionalism of the workers at every step of the supply chain. Mine had numerous snails, several large, healthy varieties of coral, many small clams, bristle worms, another worm I can't identify, feather dusters, and several starfish. I'm sure it has a lot more that I just haven't seen yet. Everything is extremely healthy and beautiful, a rainbow of bright colors.
One major warning... All live rock carries the hazard of aiptasia, and this batch was a grand winner. Three days into curing I counted six. Three days later it was up to 15, and they kept on coming. This would be a nightmare scenario to a beginner who does not know how to deal with it. A beginner should search the web for information on aiptasia. WetWebMedia is a particularly good source for tips on dealing with this potentially disastrous hitchhiker.
This nano rock is great! I got it for my 55 gal that already has alot big pieces of live rock. I'm going to use the nano rock to fill in some small open areas. I couldn't beleive that there were zoanthids on about half the rocks. There was also some kind of small neon green brain coral growing on one of the rocks. The blue mushroom coral was an awesome find. There's even a few more soft corals that I haven't figured out what they are yet. I also found about four snails and a couple of small clams all alive and well. There's some coraline, enough that will sread over the rocks in time. The only bad thing was the shipping, the box was a little beat up. I had it overnighted and maybe on the plane it got thrashed around or something. I think thats why everything is such good shape because it got here in hours not days. Pay the few extra bucks for overnight. I almost forgot to mention the feather duster growing on one of the rocks, I always thought about getting one and now I have one. I am very happy with my purchase.
I won't lie at first I was disapointed with how small the rock was, but and this is a big but, then I put it in the tank. It makes a perfect aquascape. Normally I wait till I cure a product to comment on it bur this rock has been in my tank 3 hours and I have a minicarpet anemone, 12 small anemones 24+ yellowpolps, 48+ greenpolps,6 clams, an emerald crab, and more. On the downside I have 1 aptasia and had 1 mantis shrimp in the bottom of the bag.
This is amazing rock! I have been in the hobby for 15 years and bought rock from dozens of sources and never found anything like it. My tank cycled in two weeks not months. If there is one down side its that i got so many soft coral hitch hikers i almost have the room for more corals. I was even lucky enough to get a maxi~mini carpet anemone that is 3 inches acrossed fully open. Don't waste time with other sources for rock you'll only be disapointed. The drs. are the best!
I received my Nano rock two weeks ago. I do have one problem... I need to discard 2 pieces in order to fit into my tank, and having a terrible time figuring which two. Each and every piece if truly unique and beautiful. Highly recommended!
I had my order sent overnight for an extra $2.00. As a result, I believe I had less die off. My rock was fully cured in one week with an ammonia reading of zero. The one thing I can recommend is Kent Marine Rock Prep. It has a nice brush and cleaning solution in the bottle. I believe all this contributed to a successful curing process.
I am SO impressed with the sizes, shapes and colors of this rock! I am starting my first reef tank ever, (a 10 gallon nano) and these rocks were PERFECT! The shapes are amazing. I had very little crumblings at the bottom of the bag. I have not seen any critters yet, but I just placed them 24 hours ago! I already see some wonderful pink/magenta coraline. Extremely satisfied with this purchase! Just keeping my fingers crossed I have some really cool critters! Well worth the money!
