Overview

The Blue Spotted Puffer may also be called the Blue Dot Toby or Blue Dot Sharp-nosed Puffer. Members of the Canthigaster genus are called Sharp-nosed Puffers or Tobies. The Blue Spotted Puffer Canthigaster solandri and the Papuan Toby Puffer Canthigaster papua have very similar characteristics. The lack of orange coloration around the mouth of the Blue Spotted Puffer Canthigaster solandri distinguishes these two puffers. The Blue Spotted Puffer lacks pelvic fins, but has learned to use the pectoral fins to move about the aquarium.

A 50 gallon or larger, fish-only aquarium is suitable. Its teeth are actually a fused beak-like structure. It may eat invertebrates found in a reef tank. It becomes alarmed when in a net, therefore, use a container to transfer it.

The diet of the Blue Spotted Puffer needs a varied diet of meaty foods including; squid, krill, clams, and hard shelled shrimp to help wear down their ever growing teeth.

Customer Testimonials

Deonna Roberts Apollo Beach , FL
I love my Puffy! He is like having a dog in my tank. He interacts with me everyday, sleeps at night on his rock, and begs for food. He is so pretty and I really enjoy him!!
Leif & Carolyn D Roslyn , PA
This is the first fish we ordered from liveaquaria and over a year later is still our most beautiful and hardy fish. He/she is one of our best eaters and even eats from our hand! He is so good with other fish and very friendly with nonconspecifics. We highly recommend this fish. The picture doesn't do him/her justice. We love our "Flyin' Toby". Thanks for another great fish F&S!!!
Emma N Livingston , MT
This fish is a gorgeous addition to our tank. The colors are much more vibrant than the picture shows. We've named our puffer Ted Bundy because he is gorgeous but deadly. Ted has feasted on our nassarius snails but has surprisingly left most of our other snails and hermits alone. He peacefully shares a tank with a cleaner skunk shrimp, sexy anenome shrimp, 3 emerald crabs, a pom pom crab, tomato clown, coral beauty, lawnmower blenny, and mimic tang. He has an awesome personality and feels worth the snails we've lost.

I love my blue-spotted puffer! He's very friendly and leaves my snails alone! I would highly recommend this fish
