Innovative Marine Designed for maximum macro algae growth, this AUQA Gadget™ ChaetoMax™ 2-in-1 Refugium LED Aquarium Light from Innovative Marine has taken the technology behind indoor horticulture and crafted the optimal spectral recipe specifically designed for ultimate macro algae photosynthesis.

Each of the 45 LEDS in this light emit a specific spectrum level: 5 - 420nm blue, 10 - 470nm violet, 10 - 630nm magenta, and 20 – 660nm red. By eliminating the green and yellow wavelengths from refugium lighting, the ChaetoMax targets various parts of a plant’s cellular growth structure, meaning faster growth, higher quality plants, and less wasted energy.

Slim, sleek design can be mounted horizontally or vertically with included mounting hardware. Light measures 6.7” x 1.85” x 0.39”.

Refugium Lighting Tips

Refugiums, small aquariums either located near or attached to your main aquarium, typically employ macroalgae, live rock, and live sand (or some combination of the three) to offer an ideal natural solution for enhancing and maintaining healthy conditions in an existing marine aquarium. Since most sumps or refugiums converted for macroalgae growth are located underneath the main aquarium, it is important to provide an independent light source for the macroalgae. An LED light set for a 10-14 hour daily photoperiod provides sufficient light without encouraging over-aggressive growth.

The use of a timer automates the light schedule to make it easier to regulate the proper photoperiod. Also, be sure to run the refugium lights on a reverse or opposite schedule from the main aquarium lighting. The staggered lighting schedule provides the added benefit of stabilizing pH and maintaining a higher oxygen level at night.

The careful cultivation of macroalgae harnesses the power of nature to prevent the growth of nuisance algae and helps to maintain healthy and stable aquarium parameters.
