Overview

The Giant Knobby Cerith Snail Cerithium nodulosum is a hardworking member of a clean-up crew and will make a logical addition to your reef aquarium because of its size and appetite. It consumes detritus and several types of algae including film algae, hair algae, diatoms, and some types of cyanobacteria. White in appearance, it has a shell with a prominent spire, whorls, and protruding knobs. Areas of creamy coloration and black striations add interest to this large Cerith snail.

The Giant Knobby Cerith Snail is believed to be the largest Cerith snail in the world and in nature is found in the sand on coral reefs throughout the world. In a home aquarium, it will be found in the sand substrate, or cleaning rocks and aquarium glass.

This member of the Cerithiidae family reproduces by broadcast spawning.
