Overview
Blue Carbon Shrimp Neocaridina davidi (fka Neocaridina heteropoda), are sure to garner attention in your freshwater aquarium. You will want to search them out as they travel the bottom of your aquarium to view their beautiful blue color. They have a calming transparent light blue color in the center of their bodies that is accented with darker blue on their heads and tails. These shrimp cast a beautiful ornamental quality while in their purposeful pursuit of algae and organic debris. As such, Blue Carbon Shrimp are invaluable members of your aquarium cleanup crew.
If breeding these shrimp, it is important to keep them in a breeder aquarium with a sponge filter. Like all invertebrates, Blue Carbon Shrimp are sensitive to copper. Copper-based medications should never be used in aquariums housing ornamental invertebrates.
Blue Carbon Shrimp are omnivores that will consume algae, detritus and left over food. If insufficient food is present, supplement with algae tablets, quality flake food, or pellets.
