Overview

One of the most iconic Flasher Wrasse is the reef-safe and beautiful Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse. This lively gem displays pink, orange and yellow with blue stripes as a juvenile. Adult males lose most of the overall pink body coloring which transitions to pastel yellow and orange with bright blue to purple stripes or lines that run with the length of the body. Magenta coloring floods the lower half of the anal fin while dusty orange and yellow adorn the dorsal fin which sports extended dorsal rays for a dramatic effect when males “flash” or flare their dorsal fin during mating rituals with females or territorial disputes with rival males. Also present in the dorsal and anal fins are iridescent blue and violet color accents. Female Carpenter’s Wrasse are smaller in size and more subdued in color and smaller dorsal and anal fins compared to their male counterparts.

A 55 gallon or larger aquarium with a tight-fitting lid is required for Carpenter’s Flasher Wrasse since they are prone to jumping like all other wrasse. Female Carpenter Wrasse will encourage the male to perform colorful displays so to keeping a small group of females in a harem-type setting is a plus. The females should be introduced into the aquarium prior to the male if possible. Then, add the male Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse before other species are introduced into the aquarium. It is best to keep them with peaceful tank mates.

The Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse diet should include vitamin enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods along with a high quality marine flake and marine pellet food.
