Overview
Gorgonian corals included in the Assorted Maricultured Sea Fan are peaceful but should be given adequate space between neighboring corals or anemones. Underwater epoxy is commonly used to anchor the base of these corals to a piece of live rock in the reef aquarium. These zooxanthellate Gorgonian corals are photosynthetic and requires a moderate amount of light achieved by T-5s, powerful LEDs or the more intense metal halides depending on the amount of particulate filter-feeding food available to them. Gorgonian corals included in the Assorted Maricultured Sea Fan may seem slightly more challenging to maintain as they require supplemental feedings several times per week.
In order to inhibit potential nuisance algae and cyanobacteria growth on the Gorgonian corals included in the Assorted Maricultured Sea Fan, it is important that you provide medium to strong water flow (constant or intermittent). Remove immediately any nuisance algae or cyanobacteria covering Gorgonian corals as this can lead to rapid coral tissue deterioration if left unchecked. Nuisance algae and cyanobacteria growth can be removed gently using a soft brush. Combat cyanobacteria by soaking the affected Gorgonian corals in fresh water of the same temperature for approximately one minute. Gorgonian corals included in the Maricultured Sea Fan Variety 3 Pack will benefit from the addition of iodine, calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
Gorgonian corals included in the Assorted Maricultured Sea Fan should be fed a few times a week with a filter feeding food. Provide a varied diet of live or frozen baby brine shrimp, Marine Snow, PhytoPlan and other suitable micro foods.
