Overview

The Blue Girdled Angelfish, also called the Majestic Angelfish, has yellow scales with blue margins and a dark blue band, or girdle, that covers the face and extends backward. The girdle is highlighted with neon blue margins.

While somewhat shy, this angel is one of the easier angelfish to keep. It requires a tank of 180 gallons or more with multiple hiding places and live rock for grazing. The Blue Girdled Angelfish is not a good reef dweller, being prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. It generally will not harm small-polyped stony corals and somewhat noxious soft corals.

The diet of the Blue Girdled Angelfish should include vegetable matter such as Spirulina and marine algae, meaty items such as mysis shrimp, and high-quality angelfish preparations containing sponges.

I just got mine a few days ago and at first he was shy but now he is showing himself more often. I love this fish.
Stephen Berman Brooklyn , NY
This is my favorite fish in my 75-gallon fish-only aquarium. It was a bit shy at first, but is now the dominant fish - eating well and disease-free for about 3 years. In addition to being extremely colorful, it is a rare dominant fish that never harasses the other tank inhabitants.
John Solan Hawthorn Woods , IL

This marvelous angelfish is the perfect accent to any marine environment. The magnificent color and grace of the Blue Girdled Angelfish brings out the beauty of any tank it inhabits. When you first acclimate this fish, it will spend the first couple days hiding. He will come out from time to time in the first week and dash back to his hiding spot when he feels threatened. Once your fish is acclimated, he will expose himself to you fear-free. These fish are not extremely aggressive, but they will let other fish know it is there. Food for them should include Spirulina and angel formula, which includes sponges. This amazing fish is a great species for any tank.
Stuart Perks Hornell , NY
What a superb fish. It arrived in perfect condition as usual from Drs Foster and Smith, a little shy at first but within 2 days was out feeding with all my other fish, all of which I have purchased from no other than liveaquaria.com.
Andrew Bergler Buffalo , NY
Nice fish and very active once established. I would not recommend this fish for a reef enviroment. The fish took a liking to all my mushrooms so I had to sell him. I know who has him and he is still doing great after a year in a fish only tank. I knew I was taking a risk but it's a beautiful fish and thought I would give it a shot. Quality and shipping was great just a coral eater was my problem.
