Overview
The Radiant Wrasse is also referred to as the Orangehead Wrasse, Iridis Wrasse, and Radiant Africa Wrasse. The adult has a dark red body with colors becoming lighter at the edges and fins. The head is a bright gold color with the yellow tones continuing along the dorsal fin. The color of the juvenile is more muted.
A 50 gallon or larger aquarium with a tight-fitting lid, a 2-3 inch sandy bottom to hide under if frightened, and other peaceful wrasses, including its own species, is an acceptable environment. It will eat fireworms and pyramidellid snails, protecting corals and clams which it will not bother. However, larger specimens may prey on smaller ornamental shrimp and crabs. In addition, it may eat feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms. It may also eat parasites off of tank mates.
The Radiant Wrasse diet should include vitamin enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods along with a high quality marine flake and marine pellet food.

Beautiful Fish! Absolutely stunning addition. Rather peaceful and independent species. Even though Drs. F&S have it listed as fish only this specimen is rather reef safe. Currently co-habitats with Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, Zebra Hermits, Emerald Crab and various snails. I would take care with any tiny specimens however.

I purchase this species of wrasse from DD. Very beautiful. Gets along with all the other fish in the tank. Even though it is listed as not reef safe this fish has not bothered any of my corals.

Ithe local fish stores have always warned me away from this wrasse. They come from Africa and was told that they don't ship well so they never carry them. I've had good experiences with liveaquaria, so I decided to try this fish out. The fish was a little more stressed than other Halichoeres, but pulled through great. I should add that the nose of this fish wasn't damaged at all. Considering that these fish rely on a sand bed to bury themselves in when stressed, that's surprising. I'm very happy to finally have one of these in my tank. :)
