Overview

The Ternate Damselfish, is also known as the Lemon Chromis and is presently uncommon to the aquarium industry, making an interesting and attractive addition to the fish-only marine or reef aquarium. This striking fish closely resembles the Yellow Damselfish (Amblyglyphidodon aureus) but sports a stately green coloration that beautifully offsets the translucent coloration of its tail and fins. This eye-catching color combo adds flashes of dramatic color for a lively addition that complements your aquarium.

The hardy and easy-to-care-for Ternate Damselfish is a great choice for new and experienced aquarists. This Indo-Pacific native is found among coral-rich areas of sheltered coastal reefs. The Ternate Damselfish will generally ignore other fish, invertebrates or corals. However, as the fish matures, it may demonstrate territorial behavior towards its own kind or similar-sized fish. A 30-gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of live rock with multiple hiding places helps break up territories and decrease potential aggression. Spawning Ternate Damselfish are known to lay egg masses on coral skeletons or dead portions of Acropora corals. An industrious pair may clear off portions from live corals if an alternate spawning material is not provided.

The diet of the Ternate Damselfish should be varied and consist of meaty items, herbivore flakes, and frozen preparations. foods may also help to preserve body coloration.

Are you thinking about ordering some blue green chromis for your tank? Dont'! The lemon chromis is a beautiful, hardy addition to your tank. I ordered 6 after my shipment of blue green chromis got delayed due to bad weather. Only one survived, but when the lemon chromis were added to the tank they took him in as one of their own. They are active feeders that mingle with all of the fish in my tank. One of the best fish for the price on this site!

Bought this labeled as a Lemon Chromis. Bright yellow top with white on the sides. Can change to a more dull color with dark bands on its side. This ended up being a very aggressive fish and constantly picked fights with everyone, including my big Clarkii Clownfish. Had to remove him from my system. Do not recommend unless you have an aggressive tank. If you do try one, I suggest multiple individuals.
