Overview

The Sleeper Striped Goby originates among the rubble zones surrounding the reefs of the Indo Pacific. It is white in coloration with a series of black, orange and neon green horizontal dashes and dots extending the length of the body. The head is also marked in the same colors adding appeal to this species. It is a very timid fish that makes a great addition to a reef aquarium and will aid in maintaining the sand bed.

It should be housed in a 30 gallon or larger aquarium with a fine to medium sized sand substrate. The Sleeper Striped Goby uses shallow burrows in the substrate as refuge, keeping the substrate well oxygenated. It rarely becomes aggressive towards other fish, but is territorial, and will fight with its own kind unless they are a mated pair.

The Sleeper Striped Goby Goby feeds off the bottom as it sifts through the sand. Its diet should include a variety of frozen brine and mysis shrimp, bloodworms, and prepared foods for carnivores. It should be fed at least daily.

Customer Testimonials

Bob P Las Cruces , NM
I have a 4 inch specimen in a 70gal reef aquarium; he quickly dug sand out from under the live rock (be sure yours is well-anchored on the bottom) and has cleaned the upper 1 inch of live sandbed, initially causing quite a cloud. He is not timid, always at work sifting the sand, and has become one of the family's favorites becasue of his activity and "personality". My purple Firefish love to dart into the burrows he has made under the rocks, and my clams benefit from the fine particulate matter he has lifted into the water column. He has dumped a little sand on some of my plate and brain corals, but they have not seemed to suffer a bit. This is a great fish for the money, providing function, entertainment and even some color, and grows to a size sufficient to "stand up" to bold tangs.
