The Metallic Green Flower Pot Coral should be housed in an established reef aquarium with high water quality. In the wild, Goniopora corals are often found in nutrient-rich shallows near the shore or in lagoons with turbid water conditions. To best replicate these conditions, the Metallic Green Flower Pot Coral requires moderate lighting conditions achieved by T-5 fluorescent, powerful LED, or more intense metal halide light fixtures combined with medium water movement within the aquarium. These corals are found free living within the rubble zones of the reef, and have the ability to inflate themselves to both maximize light exposure, and to keep from being covered in sand.

It is a solitary, semi-aggressive coral with shorter tentacles than its cousin the Long Tentacle Plate Coral (Fungia sp.). Even with short tentacles, it can still damage other corals that it comes in contact with. With placement in the aquarium, keep in mind that it will often inflate itself with water and expand to twice its size. It will do best on the bottom of a reef aquarium, preferably lying on a fine sandy substrate. The Orange Short Tentacle Plate Coral is easy to maintain in the reef aquarium and makes an excellent candidate for the beginner reef aquarist. Care should be taken in handling it however, to prevent damage. It requires moderate lighting combined with moderate water movement within the aquarium. While it rarely exposes its polyps, they may occasionally be seen at night. The sweeper tentacles that are used to gather food will reach about three inches in length. It is, therefore, a good idea to keep other corals outside of this range. It is a round, solitary coral, usually having a single oral opening present in the center, however, multiple openings have been present in some species. The Australian Scolymia Coral, Red is red or brown with cup, saucer, flat, or dome-shaped variations. It is not an outwardly aggressive coral, but should be provided with plenty of space between itself and other corals because it can expand twice its size during the day.

The Australian Scolymia Coral is easy to maintain in the reef aquarium, and makes a perfect complement to bivalves as in the wild, it is often found in association with Tridacna Clams. It makes an excellent choice for both the beginner and advanced reef aquarist. It requires moderate lighting combined with moderate water movement within the reef aquarium. For continued good health, it will also require the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water. Its feeding tentacles appear during the evening and while exposed, will feed on meaty foods such as micro-plankton or brine shrimp.

Approximate Purchase Size: Tiny: 3/4" to 1"; Small: 1-1/4" to 2"; Medium: 2" to 3-1/4"; Large: 3-1/4" to 5-1/4"
