At the top of the narrow stems grow the distinctive nutmeg-brown, velvety seedpods which give cattails their name. These 3" cigar-shaped pods eventually open to release white fluffy seeds. Plant cattails 1" - 6" below water level for best results. This relatively fast-growing plant will spread via runners to fill out bare areas and create a lush pondscape. Zones 3 to 11.
