overview
The Birdsnest coral are a beautiful species that is aquacultured within the USA, and grows very thin intertwining branches. It's pink coloration will grow darker in the aquarium with age. This is a relatively fast growing species, and because of its delicate branches, care should be taken in the placement of the coral in order to protect it from physical damage.
The Birdsnest coral requires high lighting and intermittent water current to maintain its bright colors. For continued good health, it will also require the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water. While it does not require additional food to maintain its health in the reef aquarium, it will feed on micro-plankton and foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates. They will thrive in a variety of lighting conditions, ranging from power compacts, VHO, T-5's up to the more intense metal halides. Alter their position in the aquarium depending on the lighting, and provide at least 3 watts per gallon using one of the lighting systems mentioned above. The Birdsnest Coral frags are mounted on a composite plug that can be affixed to live rock anywhere in the aquarium with gel super glue or epoxy.
