South Pacific Deepwater Live Rock is an "uncured", porous rock that is available in partial box lots weighing 30 pounds. This rock consists of ancient encrusted coral heads, which makes this rock less dense than Fiji Premium Rock, and more unique in shape to all other live rock that is available. The average size of each rock is much larger than most other South Pacific rock and varies between 8 to 12 inches. This rock is ideal for the larger or show aquarium. South Pacific Deepwater Live Rock recommended weight per gallon is between 3/4 to 1-1/4 pounds. This quantity will create a beautiful aquascape, with many open holes and crevices, for marine life to hide. For aquascaping, it is acceptable to alter the shapes and sizes of the rock with a hammer and chisel. This will not damage the integrity of the rock, nor it's inhabitants. The advantages of using this unique rock is the incredible diversity of coloration, massive size, and unique shapes.
Because the rock is uncured, more biodiversity can be found on this type of live rock. This live rock is composed of very porous calcium carbonate that is well covered in purple, pink, red, yellow, and green coralline algae. Many branching and plating coralline algae, as well as many species of macroalgae are present on this type of rock.
Live Rock will benefit not only reef aquariums, but also fish-only tanks. Live rock will provide a natural food source for some fish, aid in the breakdown of waste produced by aquarium inhabitants, and create a foundation for live corals or decorations in a fish-only aquarium. A diversity of life forms such as plants, worms, sponges, starfish, crustaceans, mollusks, and occasionally even hard or soft corals are present with this type of rock.
Live Rock is easy to maintain in the aquarium, and makes an excellent candidate for the beginner or the expert aquarist. This type of rock requires moderate lighting, and moderate water movement, along with the addition of calcium, strontium, iodine, and trace elements.
It is imperative to cure the rock again upon receipt, before it is placed in the display aquarium that contains fish, coral, or inverts.
