Drs. Foster & Smith's Select Fiji Premium rock is the highest grade of Fiji rock available. We are able to provide the freshest and most colorful live rock available anywhere, because this rock is flown in directly from Fiji on a weekly basis. Be warned, you may find cheaper sources for Fiji Premium rock elsewhere, but the rock is cheap for a reason because its been in a shipping container for three to six weeks! We call this cheaper Fiji rock Boat Rock because the rock is placed in cargo containers on a ship which sails out of the port of Suva in Fiji and arrives in the United States three to six weeks later!
We start by Flying in our Select Fiji Premium Live rock weekly, and deal with one of the best collectors in Fiji, who grades the rock based on shape and coralline algae coverage. Once the rock is picked up from the airport in Los Angeles California we then unpack each and every piece of Drs. Foster & Smith's Select Fiji Premium Rock and sort the rock again. Each piece is then hand picked by our experienced packaging crew based on the overall appearance and coralline algae coverage. The rock is then re-hydrated in fresh synthetic seawater, and carefully packaged in an insulated shipping box. Depending on the location of harvest this rock may be in boulder and oblong shapes, or fused branches of ancient Proites colonies, and is 70-90% covered in Coralline algae on the top or show side of each piece. A small amount of rubble may be present upon receipt of the box as this is normal and is a result of transportation. The rubble can help to seed new aquariums, or can be added to the refugium to establish hiding places for copepods and other micro-fauna.
The average size of each rock in a 22 and 45 pound box varies between 4 and 14 inches. The recommended amount of Live Rock for an aquarium is 1-1/4 to 1-3/4 pounds per gallon. This amount will create a beautiful aquascape, and add the biodiversity that many enthusiasts demand in their mini ecosystem. Drs. Foster & Smith Select Fiji Premium Rock is mainly oval or round in shape, and makes a great foundation rock for any marine aquarium. For aquascaping, it is acceptable to alter the shapes and sizes of the rock with a hammer and chisel. This will not damage the integrity of the rock, nor it's inhabitants.
Fiji Premium Rock will benefit not only reef aquariums, but also fish-only tanks. Live rock will provide a natural food source for some fish, aid in the breakdown of waste produced by aquarium inhabitants, and create a foundation for live corals or decorations in a fish-only aquarium. Many beneficial life forms such as plants, worms, sponges, starfish, crustaceans, and mollusks will appear after several months in the aquarium.
Fiji Premium Rock is easy to maintain in the aquarium, and makes an excellent candidate for the beginner to the expert aquarist. This type of rock requires moderate lighting and moderate water movement, along with the addition of calcium, strontium, iodine, and trace elements.
It is imperative to cure the rock again upon receipt, before it is placed in the display aquarium that contains fish, coral, or inverts.
ARRIVAL - When first received, this rock will vary in coloration, shape and
size. The different micro fauna may not be very visible at first, but are
deep inside the crevices of the rock.
CURING - During the curing process, some die off will normally occur, and
the rock may be scrubbed to remove these areas. When cured in a separate
container, it is common for the coralline algae to start to turn white.
Frequent water changes will help to reduce the stress on the life inside the
crevices of the rock.
ESTABLISHED - Once cured, maintained under the proper lighting, and
supplemented with buffers and calcium, this rock will regain its diversity
of bright colored coralline algae, and many beneficial life forms will begin
to appear and populate the display aquarium.

We ordered a 45 pound box to start up our 75 gallon tank. The rock had tons of life on it and, as expected, there was copious die-off accompanied by its unique fragrance for at least the first ten days. However, despite our high levels of ammonia, nitrate, and nitrate, there are several species of worms (feathers, fans, and others I can't identify) and some algae species that are still alive. Even though our tank is still cycling it seems like every day we find something interesting coming out of the rock and we look forward to coming home from work every day to see what's new! I think this rock will be spectacular once fully cured and given the right conditions.
I am very pleased with the 45 pound box I received. I couldn't believe all the different colors of coraline algae (pink, purple, green, red) that cover this rock. The rock is very porous which will make this rock a great biological filter. I have seen the Fiji Premium and the Fiji Select is defiantly worth the extra 30 dollars. I am going to order another box next week.
I am so happy I recieved my 22 lbs of your fiji premium live rock today, for my new 29 gal saltwater aquarium. It had little die off and I have already noticed some creatures - feather or tube worms. One is bright orange. And there are some yellow sponge. I am a confident supporter of this site and plan to purchase many more items here in the future!
I purchased a 22 pound box of live rock to add to my existing tank. I was very pleased to see that the box contained two very large pieces of live rock and no rubble. Out of the 22 pounds of rock there were a total of 6 rocks and no rubble. I was very pleased.
I ordered a 45lb and 22lb box of the Premium Live Rock. It had great coloration and each piece had a great shape and was perfectly sized. I would highly recommend this to others!
I ordered your 45-lb. box of Fiji Premium Live Rock and a 24-lb. Box of Tonga Branch Live Rock. I am very impressed and pleased with my first order. So pleased, in fact, I just ordered my second order of live rock to finish off my tank. All I can say is keep up the great work. Thanks again.
I ordered a 45-lb. box of your Drs. Foster & Smith's Select Premium Fiji Live Rock. After receiving your rock, I am very pleased with the sizing! I used it to cycle my tank. It had no color at first, but it started little by little getting coralline algae all over it! Now it is purple, pink, and green, and has plants growing on it! I am going to order some fish from you soon and more of this great rock for my new saltwater setup! Thank you for your great product!
I highly recommend this product and many of their other products. I ordered 45 lbs. of the Drs. Foster & Smith's Select Fiji Premium Live Rock. This was my first purchase of Live Rock and I am very pleased. It is beautiful and in great shape. I look forward to ordering more Live Rock and some fish soon.
I ordered your 45 lb. box of Select Fiji Premium Live Rock a little over a month ago. The order was very prompt and the customer service was helpful. Being that this was the first time, I was unprepared for how the rock would look when it arrived. It wasn't as vivid as I had expected at first. I am very happy now because to my surprise, after being moved into my tank from the quarantine tank I had them in, they have blossomed with life! They turned a beautiful purple and there is even some plant life growing on some of the rocks. I am very pleased. Thanks again and I hope to order more soon.
I ordered the 45 lb. box of Select Fiji Premium Rock. It came very well packaged. The colors were fantastic and there was minimal die off. Another great product with prompt and reliable customer service. My tank looks great! Thank you
I ordered a 45 lb. box of your Select Fiji Premium Rock. There was very little die off, and a good variety of shapes and sizes. The rock is now full of color and life! I am very pleased with it.
I was a little nervous about buying live rock without being able to pick it out for myself. But upon receiving my Select Fiji Premium Rock, I don't think that I could have handpicked better rock myself. Thanks!
I ordered 2 boxes of 45 lbs. The rock included some large pieces, smaller pieces, and rubble, but not much medium sized rock. Over the four months I have had the live rock in my tank, I have found something new almost every day! The coralline growth is excellent and I have found numerous mushrooms, tube worms, sponges, and other inverts that arrived as hitchhikers. The live rock is also very porous and has made excellent caves for shrimp, blenny, and other fish. I am very happy with this live rock!
Wow, just wow, is all I can say! I ordered 45lbs of the Select Fiji Premium Live Rock, and all I can be is amazed at how much life was found on the rock. It is a great product and it is well worth the price. Almost 90% covered in Corraline Algae! Beautiful rock, great for any aquarium, especially great for my 55gal soon to be reef tank.
I just wanted to let you know the 45# of Fuji premium live rock I ordered from you arrived in superb condition. I was home when it was delivered (2nd day air) and followed your directions to the "T" that came with my box. This is day 3 in my tank and already this morning the pink, red, and green algae's are coming back and are brighter. I had minimal die off when it arrived, maybe 1-2% is all. Thanks for the wonderful rock!
I just got my 45 pound box today and ordered another right away, I was so pleased. The Fed Ex guy even lugged it up to my door and dropped it, and there was still very little rubble. Very, very happy.
I ordered a 45 lb box of Fiji Premium Live Rock. This live rock is in great shape. I was half expecting a bunch of really small pieces. What I got where very large pieces of live rock. The price was, amazing! Only 100$ for 45 lbs of premium live rock. Shipping was pricey. However, it arrived on time and in great shape. Thank you Fedex, and thank you Live Aquaria for this great deal!
I recently received my Fiji premium live rock (45 lbs). Shipping was quick and packaging was top notch. When removing each piece (11 pieces) I was amazed on how much color was there. This rock is just amazing. Took my tank to another level! Thank you liveaquaria.com :)
I ordered from this site on a Wednesday night around 7, and the rock arrived at noon on friday! Not to mention 22lbs was about 10 rocks full of Red, Purple, Green, and some orange as well. It filled a few 5gallon buckets with nothing but rock. Very pumped this site will get all my orders for live rock!
Because I rely on testimonials, I am thankful to those who recommended this rock and will do the same for those who come after me. I received a 45lb box on Thursday for my 75 gal tank. I loved it so much, and knew I needed more, I ordered 45lbs more and received it yesterday (Saturday). First box came with a fair amount of rubble, though not more than expected. It looks like FedEd was a little rough on the box. The stone is beautiful though. The second box had almost no rubble, and the rock was flatter than the first which worked out great! My setup looks professional even though this is my first tank. Cycling started almost immediately with high levels of ammonia detected right away. I'll monitor cycling over the next several weeks and am sure there will be lots of great stuff to come! Thanks DFS!
At first when I purchased this LR and got it in I was mad. It looked dead, and I didn't have any living critters on it. But I put it into my tank and cycled it. I didn't notice anything for the month other then the normal cycle but then I had the lights off. One month in it was finally time to turn on the lights, and still upset that nothing neat was showing I waited a bit more. After one day with the lights on I started to see a beautiful red/orange on a few rocks. In a weeks time several rocks had green, orange, red, yellow, and purple stuff growing on them. Now I'm very satisfied and happy. Give it time, but this stuff really is alive and worth the price.
I ordered two 45lb boxes, and it was the tale of two boxes. The first box was incredible. Beautifully colored, some corals that may or may not have survived, and just some really interesting pieces. Obviously some premium stuff. The second box however, was not nearly as exciting. Most pieces were just regular live rock, nothing premium about it. This box will definitely be used as the base, but the other rock will sit beautifully on top.
Overall, I'm pretty happy. Had I gotten two boxes of the beautiful stuff, I don't know what I could do with it all!
I love it! The LR is covered in coralline algae and there are even some various corals growing on it! Lately there's even chaetomorpha algae growing on the rock! What a plus. The rock cycled our tank quickly, and gives it such personality! Even with shipping, your Fiji LR was less than half the price of our LSF's. Thanks Docters!
We ordered a 45 lb box, and we are thrilled. Almost a year later, we have several mushroom corals, many feather dusters, a gorgeous starfish and a huge Hamliedan Plant (at least 6"x8"! It is pushing up on the glass!) from the rock. The color is amazing, and I plan on ordering more for my new larger tank. Thanks!
Even after a one-day delay because of weather, the box had no rubble and was in excellent condition. I ordered the 22 lb. box and received 28 lbs.!! I got two huge pieces, two medium, and one small rock. It was exactly what I wanted to add to my tank. LiveAquaria is awesome! I say forget LFS. Can't wait til this stuff cures.
