"Real Reef" Eco Friendly Live Rock answers increased demand for live rock with zero coral reef impact. This Eco-friendly, man-made, bio-active live rock is manufactured in the USA within a closed system. "Real Reef" rock starts with 100% natural ingredients and is calcium based which is the same natural building block as wild harvested "Live Rock." Once the manufacturing process is complete, "Real Reef" Eco Friendly live rock is placed in raceways in our Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life Facility until it is ready to ship. Whether you're establishing a new aquarium, or topping off an existing aquarium with this beautifully manufactured "Real Reef" rock, your aquarium will be filled with a diversity of shapes and colors.
"Real Reef" Eco Friendly Live Rock is beneficial for both reef aquariums and fish-only tanks. Man-made "Real Reef" rock will provide a solid foundation for coral in the reef aquarium, and a natural aquascape in a fish-only aquarium.
"Real Reef" Eco Friendly Live Rock is easy to maintain in the aquarium, and makes an excellent candidate for the beginner to the expert aquarist. This type of rock requires moderate lighting and moderate water movement, along with the addition of calcium, strontium, iodine, and trace elements to encourage and maintain coralline algae growth.
We are offering "Real Reef" Eco Friendly Live Rock in 25# and 50# boxes. The average size rock varies between 5 and 16 inches. The recommended weight per gallon is between 1-1/4 to 1-3/4 lbs. This quantity will create a beautiful aquascape, with many open holes and crevices for marine life to hide. For aquascaping, it is acceptable to alter the shapes and sizes of the rock with a hammer and chisel. This will not damage the integrity of this manufactured rock.
I ordered 25lb of this rock because it was fully cured, looks amazing, and didn't want to deal with the potential "hitchhiker" problem. I received my rock and my first impressions far exceeded my expectations. It's really attractive and had lots of very small inhabitants on it. It looks exactly like the photo. However, I did get a few surprises. I initially saw two hermit crabs that made the journey with the rock, along with a tiny shrimp (not a mantis shrimp) which I really liked. The one and only negative thing I can say is after placing the rock in my tank, I discovered a 1.5 inch gorilla crab lurking deep in one of the big rock crevasses. I intend on setting up a reef so he will have to be caught and removed. So for some advice to those getting this rock, take nessessary steps to eliminate the hitchhikers before you put it in you tank. Even though it is man made, it comes with plenty of life on it, almost all of which I am extremely pleased with. Overall, great choice over real rock. No cycling, abosolutly no die-off (in my case), and looks great the second you put it in your tank.
