The Dogfish Black Picus is also known as the Magpie Sweetlips. It has a unique color pattern which changes with growth. In juveniles, the upper body is jet black with large white saddles. As the fish matures, the black areas will have white spots on the stomach, back, and caudal fin (tail).
A 150 gallon or larger, preferably reef aquarium with plenty of hiding places and ample swimming room, is required due to its size and eating habits. It grows at a rapid pace to almost three feet adult length. It is not considered aggressive toward its tank mates.
The Dogfish Black Picus prefer to feed near "darkness" and the diet should consist of meaty fresh or frozen prepared foods. Once acclimated to the tank, most marine carnivore preparations will be acceptable.
