The Macolor Niger is also known as the Black Beauty, Black Snapper, or Black and White Snapper. It is an extremely fast-growing fish. As a juvenile, the bold black markings are noticeably crisp. With maturation, the black markings will begin to spread across the body and lose the crispness. As an adult, it tends to have a pale-gray color with a few lighter markings on the dorsal side.
A 180 gallon or larger aquarium with adequate swimming room is necessary for this moderately hardy fish. It is compatible with other fish in the tank, but may be bothered by those that nip on its long fins. As it grows it may become territorial and more aggressive especially during feeding time.
The Macolor Niger should be fed once a day with a diet consisting of various shaved or chopped meats such as fish, crustaceans, scallops, and shrimp, and prepared frozen foods for carnivores.
