Overview

The Dixie Deb Iris is a lovely ornamental iris that produces bright yellow flowers sure to add cheer to any water garden or pond landscape. The Dixie Deb Iris demonstrates a neat, upright growth habit that is accentuated by its vertical sword-like foliage. The Dixie Deb Iris produces 4 to 12 brilliant yellow flowers per stem that contrasts beautifully against the deep green to gray-green foliage. The number of blooms is directly related to the amount of moisture in which the iris is grown as well as its proximity to neighboring plants. The bright yellow flowers are often decorated with purplish brown veining on the petals and typically bloom from May into June.

The Dixie Deb Iris is a moisture-loving plant that can be located at the water's edge or immersed in up to 12" of water. Planting the Dixie Deb Iris in drifts results in an impressive display but will also reduce the number of blooms per stem. Seeds germinate freely, so be sure to clip off seed heads before they fully mature to prevent unwanted spread. The Dixie Deb Iris is not picky about lighting conditions and can thrive in partial shade or sunny conditions.

As a very hardy plant, the Dixie Deb Iris can be wintered outside in the pond. In northern climates, cut back the dead foliage to just above the water line. Dixie Deb Iris grown in warmer, southern regions remain green all year. Divide and repot this iris in the fall or after flowering to ensure vigorous growth and blooms. Zones 4-11.
